Tips & Tricks for Using Hair Extensions with Thin, Fine Hair

Tip 1: Avoid Adding Too Much Weight

One of the most important things to take into consideration with hair extensions for thin, fine hair is to avoid putting too much weight on your hair. Wearing too heavy or too many hair extensions can put excessive stress and strain on your hair, potentially causing breakage at the root. You don’t want that!

You need to have the right type of hair extensions for thin, fine hair to avoid causing any damage. Tape in hair extensions are a great option for fine, thin hair because the individual wefts are small in size and are very lightweight. You can add as many or as little as you want, without weighing down your thin hair or causing breakage.

• Backcombing– Backcombing, or teasing, your hair will add texture and volume. Using a comb or teasing brush, backcomb your hair towards your head and place the weft on the teased area. You’ll also want to tease the hair at your crown to add volume to the top of your head and bring the look together.
• Crimp your roots– If you prefer not to tease your hair, you can add lift to your roots and texture by crimping your hair at the root using a small hair crimper.

Use your comb or teasing brush to backcomb the rest of your hair to create volume and give an overall appearance of fuller hair. Teasing the hair on top of your head will create a “wall” that falls over your hair and hides the wefts underneath.

Tip 4: Curl Your Hair

Adding curls or waves to your hair will add more volume and help blend your hair and the extensions. Curls also help eliminate any lines between your own hair and the longer hair.

Use a medium to large size curling iron and curl your hair with the extensions, curling away from your face to add fullness and volume.

Clip in hair extensions can be heavy, but there are a few ways to make them work for thin and fine hair if you prefer them. Additionally, adding volume and texture to your hair (with teasing and dry shampoo) will also help to add support for the extensions.
