Using a good quality shampoo is very important when it comes to keeping your hair healthy for as long as possible. Hair extensions need products with high moisture levels as they are not moisturized by the natural oils and nutrients found in our natural hair. Look for shampoos specifically formulated for dry and damaged hair as these will be the most moisturizing. Ingredients such as natural oils will add moisture to the hair - we love argon oil, castor oil and coconut oil.
There are some real baddies in some shampoos that can really damage your extensions and reduce their lifespan drastically. Look for shampoos and conditioners that are sulfate-free and alcohol-free.
These products strip your natural hair of their oils and will leave them dry, tangled and prone to breakage. Reverse the bottle and look out for these ingredients, if any of them are there, put the shampoo down and look for another one! These are the no-no ingredients: SLS, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Alcohol denat, Ethanol, SD alcohol 40, Propanol, Isopropyl, and Propyl.
