Why We Love the Long Ponytail Look and How to Rock It

We love this long, voluminous look because it is both versatile and glamourous. You can rock a long ponytail for so many different occasions, from formal to casual, and wow all your onlookers.

Why You Should Rock a Long Ponytail This Summer

Ponytails are classic styles of summer; they lift the hair off the shoulders and back on hot summer days and look bouncy, flirty and beachy. If you’re ever in doubt for what style to choose this summer, look no further than the ponytail. Adding length and thickness to your pony takes the style to the next level, making it even flirtier and more feminine. If you’ll be attending a wedding this summer, a sleek low ponytail exudes effortless elegance and chic. A bouncy wavy pony is romantic and very feminine. Both looks work well for a multitude of events and will help you not only stay cool but look oh-so cool and on-trend.

There are two main types of hair extensions to achieve a longer, thicker ponytail: Ponytail hair extensions and regular temporary hair extensions. Regular temporary extensions include tape in, clip in, and halo hair extensions.

Ponytail Hair Extensions

Ponytail hair extensions are made specifically for adding length and fullness to a ponytail style. To apply ponytail hair extensions, put your own hair into a ponytail and wrap the hair extension around your ponytail and a piece of hair around the base of the pony to hide the band. Secure it with bobby pins and give it a shake to see if it feels secure. Ponytail hair extensions made for black hair provide perfect kinky curly, afro kinky curly and kinky coily ponytails that can be worn as a pony or as a bun. Made with a mesh drawstring and several small combs, the ponytail hair extensions for black hair fit easily around a bun for a secure, discreet look.

Achieving Different Ponytail Styles with Temporary Hair Extensions

Clip in, tape in and halo hair extensions can help you achieve a variety of ponytail styles, while ensuring it is secure and that no one will know you’re wearing extensions!

The High Pony

First, create a small ponytail at your crown to anchor a three-clip weft clip in hair extension. Clip the extension weft as close to the hair tie as possible. Next, clip a two-clip and three-clip weft in the same way. Gather together the rest of your hair and bring it into a high ponytail, covering the first little ponytail completely. Secure the ponytail with a hair elastic. To hide the wefts of the extensions, wrap a piece of hair around the ponytail base, and use a bobby pin to secure it underneath the ponytail.

High Messy Ponytail

When installing the extensions for this type of pony, you’ll be placing them in the upward direction that you’d normally be bringing your hair for a high ponytail. Create a part halfway at the front of your head and put in a two-clip clip-in hair extension facing downward. Create another section of hair at the crown of your head and flip your head upside down. Clip in a four-clip weft upside down. If you want more thickness, continue to create sections and clip in additional four-clip and three-clip extensions. Bring your hair into a high ponytail and secure with a hair tie. Take out a few face-framing pieces of hair to achieve a messier look.

Low Ponytail

Apply clip in hair extensions or tape in hair extensions as you normally would for a down style. You can also achieve this style with halo hair extensions. Tease some sections of hair at the root to create more volume. Once all of your extensions are put in, gather your hair into a low ponytail and secure with an elastic. If you leave out a piece of hair at the bottom, you can use that to wrap around and conceal the elastic.

What ponytail style is your favorite? With just a few minutes, you can achieve a longer, fuller ponytail to rock this summer.
