5 Ways to Take Care of your Hair

Let’s face it, ladies, we put our hair through a lot.  From coloring to blow drys and heat styling - we are all guilty of hair abuse resulting in dry, frazzled locks.  Taking care of your hair is so important for achieving healthy, glossy hair, particularly if you are trying to grow it or make it thicker.  Thankfully, there are some super easy ways that you can improve the health and the appearance of your hair and add some much needed tlc to your regular hair routine.

Oils

You may have noticed that oils are a big thing right now for both hair and skin.  With so many natural benefits, oils are being hailed as a natural miracle cure for dry and damaged hair.  Coconut oil, macadamia oil, argan oil, jojoba oil and lavender oils are just a few types of oil that can really help your hair health with regular use.   For best results, towel dry your hair and then leave the oil in overnight.  Massaging oil into the roots of your hair is also great for your scalp and can stimulate hair growth.

DIY Masks

There are some really great simple DIY masks that you can make at home with just a few ingredients that won’t break the bank.  As we are slowly easing out of lockdown, now is the perfect time to get creative and use all this extra time at home to take care of your hair.  We will be posting some amazing DIY hair mask recipes for you shortly, hold tight!

Put Down the Tools

Yes, it sounds obvious but you will be so (pleasantly) surprised when you lay off the hair tools at how quickly you will notice a difference in your hair health.  From blow outs, to straightening to curling and then coming back around full circle, hair tools are not our friend.  Give your hair a break and some tlc by air drying where possible.  Braiding your hair when it's damp creates beautiful beachy waves that are perfect for summer.  If you do need to use any heat styling tools then keep them below 180 to avoid too much damage and always use a good heat protector spray.

Don’t Overwash

Overwashing your hair strips it of the essential oils and nutrients that it needs to stay healthy and glossy.  It can also damage your scalp and hair follicles.  Different types of hair will require different amounts of washing but on average try to limit your hair washing to every 2-3 days.  If you are wearing hair extensions then definitely try not to wash your hair too often.  Hair extensions obviously aren’t conditioned by the oils that your natural hair produces so they can easily become dry and dehydrated and they won’t last as long if you wash them too often.  If you haven’t tried it already then dry shampoo is an absolute must and will become your best friend to keep greasy roots at bay.  Plus, spreading out washes will give you plenty more free time to do things you enjoy!

Nourish from the Inside

We all know that healthy skin starts from within, well the same goes for your hair!  A healthy, balanced diet plays a huge role in helping to keep your locks healthy and shiny.  If you have damaged hair or are experiencing hair loss then a healthy diet is really important.  Protein rich foods are an excellent way to strengthen your hair, eggs in particular contain plenty of protein and biotin which are both key nutrients for hair health.  Other foods for healthy hair include salmon, nuts, berries, avocados and sweet potatoes.  Biotin can also be taken as a daily supplement to support hair growth and hair health.
